Situated two miles from the picturesque town of Henley-on-Thames in the village of lower Shiplake, this four star inn, with a 2008 Visit Britain silver accolade, sits on the Thames Path and is 150m from Shiplake station on the First Great Western branch line to Henley. It is a nice blend of traditional village pub, award winning restaurant and superb accommodation. Built in the 1930’s, it retains a warm and homely atmosphere with roaring log fires in the winter and a delightful garden ion the summer. The bar with its sporting memorabilia (it even has its own rugby team, The Hounds) is a favourite with the locals. It features among others three cask ales and over thirty malt whiskies. Seasonally changing lunch, a la carte and Sunday lunch menus are based on modern classic dishes with eastern and continental influences. In addition, there are daily specials, winter fixed menus and summer BBQ’s. All produce is, where possible, locally sourced, organic and freshly delivered daily. All dishes, including the bread, are prepared on site from individual ingredients and cooked to order. There are around fifty wines on the list, including a range of fine wines. The Baskerville is a child friendly pub (there is a children’s play frame in the garden) and dogs are welcome to stay by arrangement and in the bar or garden if kept on a lead. There are four en suite bedrooms – two doubles, a family room and a twin – all awarded the Silver Accolade.
