The Ketch at Kniveton is a fine sight on summer days, with window boxes and tubs overflowing with colourful flowers and lush greenery. Behind the stone and whitewashed frontage the inside is really superb, thanks to a major refurbishment in 2007, and the inn was closed for three months during the revamp. It started life as a farmhouse, and since becoming a pub it has been called the Ketchum Inn and the Greyhound. Now firmly established as the Ketch, it attracts well-deserved support from the local community as well as passing trade and the tourists who come here in their droves in season to discover the many attractions in the region. Everyone is welcome, including families with children, and the ambience is invariably notably warm and friendly. The Ketch stands on the outskirts of Kniveton, three miles northeast of Ashbourne on the B5035. The start of the Peak District National Park is just a mile away, and other local attractions include Carsington Water (2 miles) and Alton Towers (9 miles).
